National Park Service: Apollo Beach Visitor Center

  • Location: New Smyrna Beach, Florida

    Client: National Park Service

    Size: 1,200 Square Feet

    Completed: 2018

  • This exhibit is located in the main visitor center at Canaveral National Seashore, often referred to as the “Space Coast” because of its proximity to NASA facilities. The 57,000 acre Seashore contains mangroves, islands and beaches that are home to dolphins, manatees, turtles, osprey, oysters and a diverse array of fish.

The main goal of the exhibit was to demonstrate the richness and diversity of the local ecosystem by introducing these animals and habitats. The centerpiece of the space is a life-size mangrove sculpture complete with fish swimming through its roots and birds perched in its branches. Oysters, crabs and shrimp are also featured in the tank. An osprey soars overhead with a fish in its talons. Graphic panels, illustrations, and a touch-feel millwork cabinet complete the installation.

Space Haus designed, fabricated and oversaw installation of the project. We also worked with Ideum to develop an interactive media game that educates visitors on the sea turtles that nest along the coast.
