  • With a library, state of the art laboratories, and seminar rooms, the Science Center is home to the Botanic Gardens’ plant research and conservation efforts. Its facilities serve scientists, students from Northwestern University, interns and staff. It also contains a public gallery where visitors can learn about the work being done at the Center, and look into the labs to watch the research activities underway. Other features include a rain garden that surrounds the building, a 16,000 square foot green roof, a weather station, and various teaching facilities.

The building is LEED Gold certified, featuring local and recycled materials, natural daylighting, reduced energy and water use and other innovative and sustainable design choices.

Completed in 2009, the Center was awarded the prestigious ‘Laboratory of the Year’ by R&D magazine in 2010.

Edwin Chung was Project Architect for this building while working for Booth Hansen Architects.
