  • The Shubert Theater (now CIBC theater) renovation uncovered and restored historic details including an ornate vestibule with intricate moldings and dramatic plaster ceilings in the lobby and auditorium. The new exterior façade, restored in a rigorous process involving over 1,400 recast terracotta panels, radiates the energy and excitement of the original building. Inside the auditorium, new seats were installed, aisles were reconfigured, and the slope of the orchestra level was adjusted to improve sight lines.

The restoration was recognized in 2006 with the prestigious Chicago Landmark Award for Preservation Excellence, following the Majestic Building’s recognition as a Chicago Landmark in 2005.

Edwin Chung served as project architect on this job, while working at Booth Hansen Architects in Chicago. The renovation was undertaken as a partnership between Broadway-in-Chicago, Northern Realty Group, and First Hospitality Group.
